W Bro Mark A Winchester PAGDC ProvGSec / PAGSoj ProvGSE will be standing down from the joint Offices of Provincial Grand Scribe E in May and Provincial Grand Secretary in June 2019. The RW ProvGM/MEGSupt Ian Michael Chandler is keen to appoint one person to continue to undertake both roles. To that end an advertisement for the position is below.

Advertisement for the Office of Provincial Grand Secretary / Provincial Grand Scribe E

The role of Provincial Grand Secretary / Provincial Grand Scribe E is the most important administrative appointment in any Province and can be likened to that of Company Secretary/Chief Administrator of a small company. Since May 2015 the Province of Surrey have appointed one person to manage both Offices and it is the wish of the RW Provincial Grand Master / ME Grand Superintendent to continue in this position.

Our current Provincial Grand Secretary/Provincial Grand Scribe E, Mark Winchester, retires after four years’ Royal Arch Service and five years’ Craft service at the Annual meetings in 2019.

This office calls for exceptional people management skills as well as a high degree of diplomacy, confidentiality, excellent office management and the ability to represent the Province both at Grand Lodge/Supreme Grand Chapter and in other Provinces.

We now seek a dynamic individual who can take the Province to the next stage of its significant development over the next five years. The role is to administer the affairs of both Provincial Executives, maintain strict financial control over the Provincial Office and work closely with the Provincial Grand Treasurers and other key Provincial officers.

The appointee will need to demonstrate the vital qualities of attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a detailed knowledge or experience of IT and the ability to manage and motivate the staff and helpers at the Provincial Office.

Reporting to the Deputy Provincial Grand Master and the Deputy Grand Superintendent, the successful applicant will be eligible for a notional payment which will be contracted under a five-year term. It is expected that the successful candidate would be available to work alongside the current Post holder for at least three months before taking up the post.

The role requires attendance at various Masonic and social functions throughout the year as required and deemed necessary to maintain the presence and representation of the Provincial Secretariat. Flexibility is essential including evenings and weekends during the season. Hours of work will be the equivalent of four working days per week, however, the successful applicant should be aware that flexibility is essential as there could be some opportunity to work from home.
